Psychotherapists

Maxime Vaillant, MACP RP

Maxime is the owner and operator of Valiant Wellness. She is a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario with a Master's in Counselling Psychology, an Honours degree in psychology and a diploma in addiction counselling.

Maxime has been working as a counsellor since 2011 and is passionate about helping individuals achieve, as well as maintain, overall well-being. She takes an individualized approach to therapy by taking the time to listen and collaborate with her clients in an effort to identify goals and exploring effective strategies.

Marie-Pierre Gagné, MACP RP

Marie-Pierre is a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapist of Ontario who brings an eclectic and integrative approach to therapy, grounded in evidence-based practices and tailored to the unique needs of each person.

While she draws from a variety of therapeutic models, Marie-Pierre finds particular resonance in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and self-compassion-based approaches. These modalities allow her to support individuals in building psychological flexibility, reconnecting with their values, and cultivating a kinder, more accepting relationship with themselves.

Therapeutic Approaches

Acceptance and commitment therapy

Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is an approach that focuses on developing psychological flexibility - being present and engaged in our lives in a valued way. Strategies include mindfulness, values clarification, implementing helpful actions, and other therapeutic tools. It is a collaborative and active form of psychotherapy. ACT is an empirically supported approach for diverse challenges.

Cognitive behavioural therapy

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a structured and focused approach that has been demonstrated to be effective for a variety of challenges. Sessions focus on developing awareness of unhelpful thought patterns and their impact on behaviour and mood, as well as interventions to change them.

Behavioural activation

Behavioural activation (BA) is primarily used to treat depression and is based on the understanding that our engagement in activities is related to our mood. In a structured and progressive manner, BA has the goal of helping individuals engage in activities that promote improvements in mood while decreasing behaviours that maintain or worsen depressive symptoms.
